W ord is this acclaimed "Resort of the Year 2007" has somehow lost its original lustre. Gone are the days where holiday makers MUST hand-in their mobiles upon arriving, Bikini top Hawaiian girls with garland of flowers, strutting their hawaiian moves as you walked in at the entrance. The shell beads for currency too is no longer practised. So my question is , why do people still go there? It is not cheap, mind you? The atmosphere at the resort is somewhat like any 4 or 5 star resort, minus the warmth of the people.
C lubMed boasts of friendly, people oriented GO's but judging from my short stint there, they were very superficial. I believe the GO's have been advised to join their guests during meals and that is exactly what they did. They lack communication skills as many just end up sitting there like couples going through some rough patch the night before. I was unfortunate so to speak as I had the liberty of 6 different GO's asking to join my table, one after the other and none seem to be able to hold their own what more to create interesting topics. I do however appreciate and enjoyed Mr Marthen's company and conversation throughout dinner on the last day. He is Anglo Indonesian by birth and again I like to stress that caucasians not necessarily make better conversations than us Asians. Why have representaton from different nationalities, some speaking French, Japanese, Arabic, Portugese, German, Italian, etc, only to keep to themselves. I for one know for a fact that everyone loves hearing stories and tales from different cultures and land. The key word is share & be yourself. In any organisation, it is the people that makes the difference. In this instance, ClubMed has 5 star infrastructure , second to none but they failed miserably in their quest to make ones' stay memorable & unforgetable.
